Part-Time Illustrator & 2D Animator

Froghouse is hiring a remote, part-time 2D animator to re-illustrate and animate emoji-based characters in a creative coding app to make it easier for children to edit and animate their projects. Illustration and animation work should happen in Adobe CC (primarily Illustrator and After Effects) and will include:

• Illustration: Redraw/revise 75+ animal and people characters based on the Google Noto emoji library with the goal of making them easily editable and adapted by children (e.g. no compound paths).
• Grouping for Puppet Animation: Prepare emojis for puppet animation, with a focus on grouping artwork intuitively for movement (e.g. elements of a face are grouped together for gross movement but treated independently for fine movement). All assets should be delivered as SVG files, aiming to stay within a 128 x 128 pixel art board.
• Frame Animation: Utilizing the puppet grouping, create proof of concept 2-4 frame animations with each character.

Successful candidates will:

• Work effectively in collaborative environments with numerous rounds of iteration and feedback from many different stakeholders
• Possess prior experience using Scratch or other block-based coding programs, and/or teaching animation to young people
• Productively give and receive constructive critique in order to improve concepts and designs
• Effectively communicate ideas about animation to a variety of audiences
• Have an interest in the principles of creative learning and constructionist pedagogy
• Be proficient working with Figma
